Lakeville, MN man charged with soliciting boys via Craigslist

Maricella Miranda, Pioneer Press, St. Paul, Minn. –

A Lakeville man who posted a personal ad on Craigslist arranged to meet a 13-year-old boy and a police officer posing as a 14-year-old boy for sex, authorities say.

Police arrested Robert Gregg Trummer, 49, who remained in the Dakota County Jail on Thursday, April 5, charged with two counts of soliciting a minor for sex, records show.

The Dakota County charges involve an officer who posed as a 14-year-old boy.

In a separate Hennepin County case involving a 13-year-old Maple Grove boy, Trummer was charged with soliciting a child for sex and electronic solicitation of a child.

“The contact that was alleged is very similar in both instances and of great concern,” said Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom.

Police began an investigation of Trummer after the 13-year-old boy’s father called police Jan. 30 to report that a blue SUV was driving very slowly by his house, according to a Hennepin County criminal complaint. The driver was looking closely at the house, passed the house, turned the SUV around and passed by again before pulling over, the father said.

Police discovered that the 13-year-old boy began talking to a man he contacted through a Craigslist ad and that the boy invited him over to the house that day for sex, the complaint said. The man knew the boy was 13, the boy told police.

Police later discovered that two Craigslist ads went online a few hours after the father saw the SUV at his home, the complaint said. The ads listed the boy’s

telephone number and his first name and were soliciting “adult men.” The boy’s father told police that he and his wife were with his son when the ads were posted. Police later traced the ads to Trummer through an email and computer address.

After the Maple Grove incident, a second investigation of Trummer began by the Dakota County sheriff’s office, Backstrom said.

Deputies posed as a 14-year-old boy and responded to the Craigslist ad through which Trummer met the Maple Grove boy, Backstrom said. During the ruse, the boy told Trummer he was 14 and gave his physical characteristics to Trummer.

Trummer gave the boy his email address, according to a Dakota County criminal complaint. The boy and Trummer exchanged pictures. Police later compared Trummer’s picture with his state driver’s license photo.

Trummer asked the boy if he wanted to meet, drive around and talk, the charges said. He told the boy, “We can be discreet no one has to know we should drive around and talk feel free to ask me anything.” Trummer also said he had met other “bois” on Craigslist.

The boy asked Trummer several times if 14 years old was too young, the charges said. Trummer replied no. Trummer then explained some sexual positions to the boy. Trummer asked the boy for a picture of him in his underwear, the complaint said.

The two agreed to meet March 28 at a Lakeville park, the complaint said. Trummer gave the boy his phone number, which was the same number he used to contact the Maple Grove boy. Trummer told the boy he would be driving a “blu SUV.”

Police began following Trummer as he left his Farmington house in his blue SUV and drove into the designated park, the charges said. Police arrested Trummer there.

Last week, Trummer was ordered in Dakota County District Court to pay $250,000 bail for his release, or $200,000 with conditions, including not having contact with anyone younger than 18. Trummer is scheduled to appear in court again April 24.

An attorney for Trummer declined to comment on the case.

In 2003, Trummer was convicted of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a 14-year-old boy in Lakeville, Backstrom said.
