CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – No. 7 NIACC swept Kirkwood 7-1 and 5-4 to win the weekend series 3-1 and move to 23-4 so far this season.
The Trojans, 6-2 in the ICCAC, got three hits and two RBI from Reynaldo Sala (Fr., Santiago, Dominican Republic) in the first game. Tyler Peterson (So., Eden Prairie, MN) drove in a pair of RBIs and Jose Perez (Fr., Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) also added his second homerun of the year to aid NIACC.
Joey Reed (Fr., Lindstrom, MN) pitched the entire way in game one for NIACC and gave up only one run on seven hits. He also struck out three Eagles.
NIACC won the 13-inning marathon that was game two 5-4 on a sac bunt by Robert Swenson (Fr., Mason City, IA). A wild throw on the play allowed Hunter King (Fr., Mason City, IA) to score the deciding run. King had a good game with three hits, including a pair of doubles in the game.
Both teams were tied at 3-3 at the end of the seventh inning, and both scored one run in the ninth.
Catcher Osvaldo Marin (So., Carolina, Puerto Rico) had two RBI to lead NIACC in the second game, while Nick Tillo (So., Sioux City, IA), Perez, and Sala all added two hits.
NIACC will travel to Marshalltown Community College for a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday starting at 1 p.m.
