NIACC Softball swept at Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – Marshalltown Community College outscored NIACC softball 27-6 during a sweep of the Trojans on Saturday, 17-4 and 10-2.

Despite the losses, NIACC (8-12, 0-6 in the ICCAC) didn’t commit any errors in both games.

NIACC had three homeruns over two games.  Hailey Eckstein (Fr., Larsen, WI) had a three-run homer in the first inning of game one to give NIACC a quick 3-0 lead.   However, the Tigers (17-7, 4-4 in the ICCAC) responded with a seven-run bottom of the first.  NIACC scored its last run on a solo shot by Cassie Pappas (Fr., Mason City, IA) in the third.

Krista Grutz (Fr., Dubuque, IA) had a pair of hits, as well as her first collegiate homerun, in game two.   NIACC trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the third, but four runs by Marshalltown in that inning put the game out of reach.

The Tigers also added three in the fifth to invoke the eight-run mercy rule.

The Trojans will be back in action tomorrow against DMACC in Boone.
