Iowa DCI Investigating Officer Involved Shooting

Boone, Iowa — This morning the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, Boone Police Department, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation continue to investigate a shooting incident involving several law enforcement officials.

On March 24, 2012, at approximately 10:48 PM a Boone County deputy and two officers with the Boone Police Department went to 827 South Division Street in Boone, to further investigate a previous incident.

Upon arriving at the residence officers spoke with two individuals. During their conversations, one man ran from the residence. The two Boone Police officers pursued the man through the yard. The man then turned on officers and pointed a handgun at the officers. Officers fired multiple rounds, striking the subject. He was immediately transported to the Boone County Hospital and subsequently airlifted to Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines for treatment. The medical status of the man is not known at this time.

The two Boone Police officers were not injured in the incident. Both have been placed on administrative leave per department policy.

Nothing further will be released at this time. The officer’s names and the man’s name will not be released until Monday.
