CLEAR LAKE – The public fishing dock at Bluebill Wildlife Area has been installed and is open for public use. The access gate to the boat ramp is also open and available for public use. Bluebill Wildlife Area is owned and managed by the Cerro Gordo County Conservation Board.
Boating use of the lake is restricted to “No Wake, Idle Speed Only”. All state fishing regulations apply including the 15” Largemouth Bass length limit. Catch and release of Largemouth Bass is encouraged.
A 62-acre parcel purchased from the Ia. Dept. of Transportation in 2002, this area features a 40-acre “borrow” lake stocked for fishing.
The Cerro Gordo County Conservation Board also reported in December that a new fishing jetty (see picture below) was been constructed at the Bluebill Wildlife Area. It was funded by an Iowa DNR Fish Habitat Grant, a local grant from Armour-Eckrich, and funds from the Resource Enhancement and Protection Program (REAP). The 85 foot long by 12 foot wide fishing jetty is located on the west shoreline, near the boat ramp. The construction of this jetty increases fishing access to the lake, while also providing additional fish habitat.
Bluebill Wildlife Area is located southeast of Clear Lake, two miles south of the intersection of Highway 965 on 40th Street.
