The Hawk Eye, Burlington, Iowa –
Two children riding their bikes from Lockridge to Rome, Iowa, discovered a human skull in a ditch Saturday afternoon, according to the Iowa Department of Public Safety.
The children reported their find to their parents, who called the Henry County Sheriff’s office at 5:10 p.m.
The discovery was on Old Highway 34 near the Henry-Jefferson county line. The skull was located in the ditch between the road and the railroad tracks.
Other skeletal remains of a human body were found during a search of the area by Henry County deputies, investigators from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, officers from the Mount Pleasant Police Department and the Henry County medical examiner.
The remains are set to be examined by the State Medical Examiner’s office and will be sent to the DCI’s criminalistic’s lab for DNA analysis.
