Eugene, OR – In what was the highest scoring regulation game between Division 1 teams this season, Oregon overcame a double-digit Iowa first-half lead to move on in the NIT tournament, 108-97 over the visiting Iowa Hawkeyes Sunday.
Iowa star senior Matt Gatens, who struggled with his shot for much of the game, tweeted: “Disappointed by outcome today but proud of this team and what we’ve accomplished. Love these guys. Future is bright. Thankful for the opportunity to play with these guys, for these coaches and in front of the best fans. Going to miss it. Thank you Iowa!”
Oregon attempted 17 more free throws than Iowa, and that played a big part in the outcome of the game.
Iowa finishes the season with an 18-17 record.
