Clear Lake family’s trailer burns Saturday

CLEAR LAKE – At about 2:15 p.m. Saturday, a Clear Lake man was golfing with a friend at Oak Hills Golf Course when he noticed a large fire that had engulfed a mobile home at Green Meadows Mobile Home Park, located at 2400 South Shore Drive, lot 107.

Dave Phariss reported that a grease fire had ignited the blaze.

“We were walking up hole nine at oak hills. We turned around saw smoke pouring out of the house. We ran over there to make sure all was good.”

Phariss said a man and his girlfriend and their one month old baby lived at the home.

“They lost everything and their home was demolished in a matter of 20 minutes,” he said.

“I didn’t get their names. I gave them $20 my buddy gave them $15 I know it isn’t much but every little thing helps,” he continued.

NorthIowaToday.com reporters Jody Spear and Kelly Meyer were at the scene to report, as well.

“It was a pan with grease heating up on the stove,” the wife told NIT. “My husband laid down and fell asleep and I went in back to check on the baby and fell asleep myself. I woke up and smelled the smoke. I yelled at my husband to get out, I grabbed the baby and ran out too.”

“They lost everything,” said a neighbor. “I could smell smoke and came out to see where it was coming from and the trailer was already half burned. I asked if anybody called 911. Somebody answered that they just did. They stood there and watched it burn.”

An ambulance was called for a lady that had passed out. The same neighbor informed, “She was so worried about her cat, that was still in her trailer, that she passed out.” The firefighters allowed, as they watched for her safety, her to enter her trailer to the south of the burning trailer, to get her cat.

As the fire fighters got done working, they had a medical check-up right away. A medical area was set up, so they could get their vitals taken and to make sure they were okay.

Asking the wife if they were able to make arrangement for a place to stay, she said, “My husband’s phone went dead, he just went to plug it in.” She was worried about not having any clothes or anything for the baby.

Phariss said that people who are interested in helping the family should call the Clear Lake police Department. “They might point you in the direction of getting in touch with (the family),” he advised.

There was an effort by others to gather donations for the family.   His name is John and the girlfriends name is Tiffany,  They just moved into there trailer home 4 days ago and had a there baby girl on Monday,  that is all the info available at this time.
