MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – NIACC softball ended their eight-game trip to the Snowbird Classic with a 9-1 win over Finger Lakes Community College (NY) and a 23-0 rout of Alfred State College (NY).
The Trojans (6-4) scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to cause the eight-run mercy rule against Finger Lakes. Cassie Pappas (Fr., Mason City, IA) continued her strong play during the trip with three hits and three RBI in the first game.
Hailie Eckstein (Fr., Larsen, WI) and Kaylor Tiffany (Fr., Cornville, AZ) both had a pair and RBI to add to the NIACC’s total. Eckstein (2-3) also earned the win and struck out five batters.
NIACC scored 17 runs during the fourth inning and capitalized on 15 walks against Alfred State. Courtney Stephens (Fr., LeGrand, IA) had five RBI on three hits in that game. Eckstein, Lisa Jorgensen (Fr., Rockwell, IA), and Beth Mildenhall (Fr., Eldora, IA) all had two RBI.
Pitcher Jessica Robinett (Fr., Maxwell, IA) earned the win, and is now 4-1 this season.
NIACC had a 5-3 record during the trip. The Trojans will next host No. 4 Iowa Central on Wednesday in their conference opening doubleheader. Game one will start at 3:30 p.m.
