The Chiefs signed their second offensive player in as many days Thursday when they agreed to terms on a three-year, $9 million contract with tight end Kevin Boss.
The Chiefs met with former San Diego running back Mike Tolbert on Thursday, but he was to leave Kansas City without a contract.
Boss, who played four seasons for the Giants before joining the Raiders last season, joins former Cleveland running back Peyton Hillis as a recent free-agent signing.
Boss, 27, was released by the Raiders this week. He caught 28 passes and three touchdowns last year, his only season in Oakland.
He previously played four seasons for the Giants, catching a total of 119 passes.
The Chiefs appeared determined to find a tight end in addition to Tony Moeaki. They lost Moeaki for the season last year with a knee injury and their three other tight ends, Leonard Pope, Anthony Becht and Jake O’Connell produced little.
Pope and Becht are unrestricted free agents and now appear unlikely to return.
The Chiefs had a visit with Seattle’s John Carlson in Kansas City on Wednesday morning but he left abruptly to head to Minneapolis, where he signed with the Vikings.
Hillis joins Jamaal Charles and Dexter McCluster in the backfield.
