Baseball: NIACC wins pair to extend win streak

VERO BEACH, Fla. – NIACC baseball has won eight-straight after topping Montgomery Community College-Rockville (MD) 10-2 and West Chester University (PA) 23-3 on Thursday.

The Trojans (10-2), who dropped Montgomery 26-5 on Tuesday, continued where they left off against the Knights by scoring nine in the first three innings.  Reynaldo Sala (Fr., Santiago, Dominican Republic) collected three of NIACC’s 12 hits, while Ryan Voves (Fr., Mason City, IA), Tyler Petersen (So., Eden Prairie, MN), and Nate Pilacinski (So., Gaylord, MN) all had two RBI.

On defense, pitcher Drew Verstegen (Fr., Mason City, IA) struck out seven batters in five innings to get the win.

NIACC broke open the game against West Chester early with six runs in the first.  The Trojans had 20 hits in the game, capped it off with a 10-run sixth-inning.

Hunter King (Fr., Mason City, IA) had a pair of doubles on four hits and four RBI.  Verstegan added three hits and four RBI.  Lukas Bakker (Fr., Brisbane, Australia) earned the win with six strikeouts and no allowed runs in five innings of work.

NIACC will play West Chester again and the Ontario Blue Jays on Thursday.
