Branstad to sign “Kadyn’s Law” Friday in Northwood

(DES MOINES) – Gov. Terry Branstad today announced that he would sign “Kadyn’s Law” at Northwood Elementary School, the school which Kadyn Halverson attended.

The bill has been dubbed “Kadyn’s Law” by Kadyn’s family and friends who have lobbied legislators for tougher penalties on those who illegally pass stopped school buses.
Kadyn Halverson was killed in May of 2011 after a driver illegally passed a stopped school bus. The bill passed both the Iowa House and Iowa Senate unanimously.
The following bill signing is open to the public and media:

This is feel good bill that makes the penalty stiffer.

It will do nothing to get bad driver’s heads out of their ass!

Sorry.

This law will change nothing except putting some more money into the state coffers. Stupid is forever and the people who pass stopped school buses are stupid and really won’t care until they are caught and then it is to late for the children. The death penalty for anyone who kills a child might help but they would probably be turned loose by liberal judges. We already had laws on the books but they didn’t care about those. God help the children.

SIMPLY WONDERFUL! It will never bring back that little girl but hopefully this will save some families the same heartache that Kayden’s family had to go through. God Bless you all for the time and hard work you have put into this so that my children and others can be safer on and while boarding buses! You have one very proud special angel smiling down on you that’s for sure!!
