MASON CITY – One person escaped a car fire Tuesday afternoon just south of Mason City at 230th Street, just east of Highway 65.
At approximately 10:50 a.m., a report of a car engulfed in flames was called to the Mason City Fire Department.
At the scene, the Mason City Fire Department was successfully putting out a engine fire of a Toyota vehicle owned by George and Marsha Albright of Mason City.
“It’s a blessing,” Albright said, of his wife, who was driving the car, escaping the danger. “At 2:00 today we were taking off to Chicago. We were getting some maintenance done, my wife was driving to town to get a new air filter. I was on the phone with her, when she told me she thought she saw smoke. I told her to pull over.”
Shortly after pulling over, the car engine was on fire.
“Better to have had it happen here than to have it happen when we were on the road,” Albright went on to say. “We are going to Chicago to visit my brother in the hospital.”
This incdient isn’t going to stop them from taking their trip.
“We’ll just get our other vehicle ready to go.”
