VERO BEACH, Fla. – Freshman pitcher Tim Black (Mount Hope, Ontario) tossed a no-hitter in the first game of a doubleheader en route to a 2-0 win over Baseball Academie Canada, and the Trojan offense had a late rally to top Massasoit Community College 9-5 on Monday.
Black tossed the first no-hitter for NIACC (6-2) since Ryun Runkle had one against Dakota County Technical College in 2004. Black threw 95 pitches in the game. NIACC’s Reynaldo Sala (Santiago, Dominican Republic) and Ryan Voves (Fr., Mason City, IA) both scored the lone runs of the game in the first inning.
The Trojans then beat NJCAA Division III’s No. 9 Massasoit Community College 9-5 by scoring seven runs in the seventh inning, and also recorded a season high 15 hits. Nate Pilacinski (So., Gaylord, MN) had three RBI for NIACC, and Osvaldo Marin (So., Carolina, Puerto Rico) drove in two. NIACC topped Massasoit earlier this trip with a 7-1 win last Saturday.
NIACC is 4-0 on the trip, and will face Dakota College at Bottineau (ND) and Montgomery County Community College (PA) tomorrow.
