Op-ed: Urdahl has no accomplishments in 24 years in office

Skipper throws another lifeline to one of his favorite politicians.   In doing so he points out others in the area who have served long terms; he points out Ken Kline the county auditor, the sheriff, Colleen Pearce the county recorder….these are apple and oranges; a supervisor sets policy and makes decisions that effect lives and bank accounts.

Trying to defend Urdahl’s marathon run in office would be tantamount to defending the holocaust…there is no defense.  If there were a single achievement to point out, it might make a statement but we all know no such thing exists, nothing…zip. In twelve of those years Urdahl just walked into office unopposed; those were gifts, not a lifetime mandate.

A lot of sport figure retire with dignity, others like some heavyweight fighter have stay in for just one more fight, one more go around, one more big purse only to get their brains bashed in.  It is like power in the Arab world….when the people tell you to get out, listen.  If you don’t believe me…ask Moammar Gadhafi.

Here is a major accomplishment of all members of the Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors: they get the work done without unnecessary drama that makes us look bad in the state press. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could say that about Mason City Council?

Not in Urdahl’s district–so doesn’t really matter to me. However, I found it really funny that Jaszewski (spelling–sorry) has no ideas, he just wants to be supervisor. REally7? I want to be Princess Anne–will that work?

What do you mean, no accomplishments?? He’s voted numerous times to raise his own salary.
Can you or I claim that?

Pretty good about it also!
How many of you know they did it again this last week? It was buried in an article in the Globe

Pete, Pete, Pete, what are we going to do with you!?!?!

First, let me clarify that I am not a Urdahl supporter! Secondly, let me chip away at your dismal characterizations. Mr. Skipper did alude to the fact that MR. Urdahl was the lone policy maker and others were in supervisory roles, the learned individual gets this! His marathon run in office was because either no one ran against him or didnt beat him. That’s hardly his fault! I agree that he is light on achievements, but arent they all! As far as taking money from someone affilliated with another party, who cares! You get your money where you get it, as long as it isnt illegal, a conflict of interest, or from a shady individual/organization (IMO).

I see the light on the term limit issue. We will always get what we have alway got when we do the same thing over and over!

In summary, this guy can be and should be beaten based on merit. What have you done for your citizenry? Sitting at a table, voting on issues brought before your governing body is only part of the job. My questions, relative to this elected position… Tell us how you (personally) have lead, tell us how you (personally) have followed, and maybe more importantly, tell us how you (personally) have gotten out of the way as to not impeed progress and bettered your citizenry. Should those answers be satisfactory to anyone, then I would give him and anyone in government my vote.

My two cents! Spring is around the corner! Work on those vocal cords, the kids will be on the lawn!!!

You ain’t seen nothing yet; the real story is still being complied, the numbers are being totaled and confirmations are being verified. I enjoyed your response and I encourage you to continue to read NIT for cutting edge news you won’t find anywhre else. I admire Mr. Skipper for trying to defend his close friend…in this case its a hard thing to do. You notice he didn’t mention any accomplishments. Sometimes when a fire is burnning out of control, its better to let it burn itself out rather than risk the chance of getting burned youself.
