City Council honors Mohawks

MASON CITY – The Mason City City Council met Tuesday night and honored a Mohawk state champion wrestler and the Mohawk Danzers.

Mason City’s Jared Bartel received a certificate of recognition from the council. Bartel became the Mohawk’s wrestling first state champion since 2001. He won at 182 lbs.

The Mohawk Danzers also received a certificate of recognition from the council. The Danzers were recognized for two first place awards and and one second place award at the Iowa State Dance Competition held in Des Moines.

In other business, FEMA has issued new flood insurance rate maps that will be effective May 16, 2012.  The city’s regulations have to be revised by that date.  The council reminded citizens in flood-prone areas to purchase flood insurance on or before that date.

The council OK’d the purchase of three 2012 Chevy Caprice Police Patrol Vehicles and on eChevy Tahoe for the Police Department from Karl Chevrolet of Des Moines, and the purchase of a 2013 Ford Explorer for the Fire Department from Pritchard  Ford of Clear Lake.
