Newark Man Charged with Multiple Bank Robberies

NEWARK, NJ—Clifton E. Mosley has been arrested in connection with three Essex County, New Jersey bank robberies committed in February, U.S. Paul J. Fishman announced.

Mosley, 44, of Newark, New Jersey, was arrested Wednesday morning by FBI agents and Newark Police. He was charged by complaint and made his initial appearance Thursday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Cathy L. Waldor in Newark federal court.

According to the complaint:

On February 11, 2012, Mosley allegedly entered a TD Bank in Newark and handed a bank teller a handwritten note stating: “Give me all you (sic) money or I will start shooting!!” As the teller removed the money from her drawer the defendant said, “Don’t give me the dye money.” On February 17, 2012, Mosley entered another TD Bank in Newark and handed a bank teller a handwritten note stating “Hand over the money or I start shooting.” On February 23, 2012, Mosley entered a PNC bank located in East Orange, N.J., and handed a bank teller a handwritten note stating: “Put money in window NOW! No Alarm or Die (sic) Pack or We Start Shooting 5 Seconds!” All three incidents were recorded on video surveillance cameras.

Each of the bank robbery charges is punishable by a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, or twice the gain or loss from the offense.

U.S. Attorney Fishman credited special agents with the FBI, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Michael B. Ward in Newark, and the Newark Police Department, under the direction of Police Director Samuel A. DeMaio, with the investigation leading to the arrest.

The government is represented by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Constantine Soupios of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Criminal Division in Newark.

The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations, and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
