NIACC Track at Nationals, Day 1 of 2

CHARLESTON, Ill. – NIACC’s women’s track and field team recorded two top-five finishes while the men had a pair of top-10 finishes at the NJCAA National Indoor Championships on Friday afternoon.

NIACC’s distance medley team placed the best on Friday with a fourth place finish in a time 12:52.12. Macomb Community College (MI) won the event in a time of 12:33.99. NIACC’s team was made up of Ashley Ubbelohde (So., Waterloo, IA), Tanesha Edmond (So., St. Elizabeth, Jamaica), Darcy Nelson (Fr., Lake Mills, IA), and Anna Buenneke (So., Hazelton, IA).

Buenneke did not defend her 3000-meter title, but placed fifth in that event in a time of 10:28.19. She was just under 10 seconds behind race winner Ebeissa Nyandwi of Iowa Central (10:18.46).

On the men’s side, the men’s distance medley placed seventh in a time of 10:29.04.

That team was made up of RJ Harris (So., Des Moines, IA), Cesar Guevara (Fr., Ackley, IA), OJ Ojullu (Fr., Worthington, MN), and Marquez Hobson (So., Minneapolis, MN). Vincennes University (IN) won that event in 10:12.32.

Thrower Lance Maxwell (So., Racine, WI) was ninth in the shot put with a toss of 14.58 meters (47’10”). In the 3000-meter run, Cody Manchester (So., Mason City, IA) placed 14th and Trent Smith (Fr., Charles City, IA) placed 17th.

There will be 27 finals run tomorrow in the final day of the event.
