Thief steals cans from Fareway can drop-off

by Jody Spear –
MASON CITY – It seems as though the economic times are making the criminal more desperate.
The Fareway and NIVC redemption collection of pop cans, located in theFareway parking lot, became victim of a thief.
Early Friday morning, at 2:26 a.m., a Mason City Police Officer observed a subject taking items from outside of Fareway grocery store, located at 400 Delaware Avenue North, without permission.  It was reported that someone was attempting to steal the cans out of the redemption bin.  The cans are to be used for the Fourth of July fireworks.
After a short foot chase up an alley, the suspect, age 17, was caught and arrested for theft.  “It is under $200,” said the Police Officer.  The young man’s name was not immediately available.

Living across the street from Fareway this happens quite often, the truth is it is usually not the type of people you would suspect, usually high school kids driving mommy and daddys car with nothing better to do.

We arrest him and it cost him court cost and fines. Maybe we should help him and offer him a dollar or two. WWJD!! If he is stealing nickles he must be in REAL NEED.

What happened to the post that was on here, didn’t agree with it so take it off.

Stealing nickels? Moron.

They will steal anything that isn’t fastened down and even then they will cut it loose if possible, They have no pride and no conscience. (Spelling?)

Yes, Larry, you spelled “pride” correctly. But when in doubt, Google it. If you have it spelled wrong, Google will ask you in a snotty tone, “Did you mean …” and then it will give you the correct spelling.
