by Matt Marquardt –

MASON CITY – Authorities were called to Alley Katz, 1341 North Federal Avenue, early Saturday morning for a fight involving a large group of people.  It was said that there were possibly injuries involved.  Ambulances were called to the scene.

Mason City police officers were clearing the area at 1:40 a.m. while an ambulance was parked out front on Federal Ave.  Sources say at least one person arrived a short time later at Mercy Hospital emergency room.  There did not appear to be any arrests immediately; authorities were still investigating the incident.

Cerro Gordo County Sheriffs were on the scene assisting the MCPD and Mason City fire and ambulance responders.

Authorities were still sorting out the situation at 2:00 a.m.  More information as it becomes available.

Do not confuse me with Red Larry-his opinions are has own. I live in the North End and have for 16 years this last time. My wife was raised up here and went to school here as well. We have very good neighbors who are just interested in keeping our neighborhood a family area. Yes-there are some people up here that are pretty rogh but if you look at the overall crime in Mason City you will see that the south part of town is every bit as bad and probably worse. The downtown area is much worse. Also, if you look at the name of the people causing the problems you will see they are not local people but have come here from somewhere else. This is the state’s problem as they allow anyone who takes up a residence in Iowa to immediately get on our welfare system which is much higher than surrounding states. They come here because they are unknown here and can get discounted or free housing and free money.

@Palmdale, KIMT is based in Mason City, and it does cover the north end of Mason City. Why would anyone want to live or have a business in the north end of Mason City is beyond me. I went to school at McKinley, which was a rough school…hard knocks. But with the creepers, fights, gun shots, murders and etc it’s no wonder Mason City doesn’t want to expand any businesses there. And Mason City has too many bars, and therefore too many places like Alley Katz, Sporty’s, and the Kozy Korner.

Absoluely nothing about this in the GLOB or on KIMT News. I guess they don’t care about letting the public know there is a dangerous place in their neighborhood.

This is not in KIMT’s coverage area, they are based out of Rochester.

Palmdale, and what planet are you from?

Palmdale is correct. Have you watched KIMT’s news? It’s all Minnesota news.
All their lead ins are the same. “A local man…….”
“A local business…….”
“A local school……..”
They all turn out to be in Minnesota.
Hey, KIMT, if it aint even in Iowa, it ain’t local.

I used to live above the bar and it was a terrible experience after a couple months went by after it opened. Hud wouldn’t even relocate me!! that place needs to be shut down all it is is drama and what about the safety of the people who live upstairs! The noise was just enough for me and my family… and yes all the crazy gang bangers aka BLACK PEOPLE have ruined this bar anyways!

How ia a bar owner responsible for another person’s actions? The people involved acted of their own accord and harmed people in doing so. Kathy does not cater to the trouble makers nor does she babysit them. Things like this have happened like this in the area, Sporties, Rookies, ect. This isn’t the only bar to have these issues neither is this a new issue to the area.

I have bartended at Sporty’s for ten years mainly working weekends and I only had to call the police twice. Yes it is a rough crowd but they mind their own business most of the time.

Can you name another bar that has gun shots ringing out in the parking lot lately? Not once but twice. An owner is responsible for any public nuisance caused by their property. She is lucky the neighborhood hasn’t banded together and filed a complaint or lawsuit. I simple google search revealed they have been busted serving minors also.

What protocols does she have in place to prevent the violence? Besides using the police force and a drunken drug using bartender.

It is a shame as it could be a nice place with a good dance floor. At one time it was one of the better restuants in town. However, decent, law abiding people will not go there while all the gang bangers and dopers are hanging out there. Let them shoot eachother. Who cares.

You have to place some blame on the owner. They could start a dress code, ban the trouble makers, stop allowing gunshots in their parking lot every two months. Instead they feel the police should babysit their business.

They “allow” gunshots? That is poor policy!

This is exactly why the NORTH end has a bad reputation! I was a patron at the place when it was Katz Lounge a few years ago. I tried to support Kathy’s business again BUT I refuse to be around a bunch of trouble makers. It’s sad because it is a beautiful place but the trouble makers turn it into a trashy place.

I bet the owners of this establishment sure didn’t have this in mind when they opened for business. It’s too bad that it has turned into such a horrible place to go. I’d almost be willing to bet that there have been more police calls to Alley Katz in the past 12 months than any two other bars combined. Let the idiots keep collecting there, I will go other places for my entertainment.

If they shut it down all the troublemakers will have to find somewhere else to go. I say leave it open! That way those of us who want to go out for a couple of drinks and feel safe have an easy choice. Anywhere BUT there!

how about we have them move it north near the outer edge. and they all can form there own town

You should learn the word their before making suggestions about who should go where to form their own town.

like this is something new for this place !!? shut it down, nothing but trouble there.
