MASON CITY – Charges have been dismissed against a Mason City man after he was absent from BeJe Clark’s residential facility and was captured in the same day.
39-year-old Jamie Alan Roggeman of Mason City was arrested Wednesday, January 25th and charged with voluntary absence for escaping BeJe Clark. Court records show on Thursday, February 23rd, District Associate Judge Gregg Rosenbladt dismissed the charge of voluntary escape and directed Roggerman to pay $181 in attorney fees to the public defender’s office.
Roggeman had been sentenced to Beje Clark’s residential treatment program after violating probation in an aggravated misdemeanor case of public intoxication 3rd or subsequent offense. Court records show he has been convicted of public intoxication offenses 17 times since 1995.
Roggeman’s 17th charge stemmed from an incident in 2011 in which an intoxicated Roggeman reported a dead body floating in the Winnebago River in East Park in the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 26th. Upon investigating, police and firemen did not discover a body, but only a scattering of cans and a basketball floating in the dam with an intoxicated Roggeman still on the scene.
The Iowa Department of Correctional Services entered a probation violation report on the case a week after Roggerman’s absence from Beje Clark. On Thursday, February 23rd, District Associate Judge Gregg Rosenbladt sentenced Roggerman to 270 days with credit for time served in the Cerro Gordo County Jail on the 2nd probation violation.
The Cerro Gordo County Inmate population report shows Roggerman will be eligible to return to Beje Clark on May 16th.
So when he gets back to Beje their going to be like, “What they give ya for running”? “Ah the DA dropped the case $181 in lawyer costs”. “Damn thats it?, I’m outta here see ya’ll in a couple weeks.”
They really need to do something about the people walking out of BeJe. Or stop letting them out with a work release. One of these days there going to hurt someone while there out on the loose.
17 CHARGES!?! WTH? He NEEDS to do some prison time. The police do their job and the courts give them a slap on the wrist.
Nothing will sober a guy up like a little prison time.
I guess I am a little confused here…did he or did he not “escape”? Is there any chance we can get a list of these judges that do things like this and others who hand down “non-sentences” so I can “ask” for them to work any charges that I might be arrested on????
Beje called the cops saying he was missing when they reported another guy running out the door. They had no idea where he was, simple detective work found him in a bar hours later.
