MASON CITY – Tax assistance for Spanish-speakers and other limited English speakers is now available.
The site is at St. John’s Episcopal Church at 120 1st Street NE in Mason City and is open from 6:00-9:00 pm on Tuesday nights until April 15.
This serice, called a VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) site has been set up for Spanish-speakers and other limited English speakers to provide free tax preparation for 2011 taxes.
To make an appointment, call Kris Gannett-Sanchez at 641-424-0981.
Why do taxes when your not paying them most of the time?
Yes, this is America. The place where my great grandparents came to from a European country under siege from Communists, and who spoke NO English. Yet you always had someone in the neighborhood who could translate. (Later, in an ironic turn, we still have some who speak the mother tongue, and we go to them for translation…..silly English speaking people that we are).
That this service is volunteer, is all that we need to know. Good for them I say.
Response to Just Me:
They may be learning English, but if you have ever tried to learn a 2nd language, I’m sure you know proficiency is not instantaneous, especially on something like doing your taxes. After all, many English speakers seek assistance for that!
If they would learn english they wouldn’t need special help.
Thanks for running this story, I know several latinos that can use this service.
wonder it the church passes the collection plate after their taxes are done???? LOL
Shouldn’t this article be in Español?
Whaaaaaaa??????? Tis America right?????????????
