(DES MOINES) – Gov. Terry E. Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds today released the full menu slated for tonight’s welcome dinner with Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping. The menu features Iowa cuisine from start to finish, showcasing some of the best food and beverages Iowa has to offer.
The meal will follow an 8 p.m. toast from both Gov. Branstad and Vice President Xi. Approximately 650 individuals are expected to attend, including 160 from the Chinese delegation.
The menu for tonight’s dinner is as follows:

Are we’re hosting (sucking up to) the Vice President of the largest slave labor mill country in the world (proudly featuring mobile execution vans and hideous air quality) for what reason again? Maybe a mock firing squad will round out the evening’s entertainment, or a slide show of the political prisoner’s camps. Would you like a cognac with that Governor?

Peter, you need to get out more and visit some of the fantastically fine restaurants in Des Moines. Garlic and olive oil abound! Trust me, it’s in this menu. I shall have to give you a tour some day.

None of the Amana Colonies fine wines?
I would never call Amana wines “fine” and given the quality of the Iowa cuisine in the meal, they would have no place except to maybe disinfect the silverware after the meal. This is a wonderful menu!
