Op-ed: Voter ID leads to discrimination (by Peter Children)

The Globe brought out their big gun recently in a guest editorial. I know Todd Blodgett, been in his company a couple of times and found him to be very knowledgeable and a very accomplished writer.

In his guest view today he talks about voter ID; touchy subject…leads directly to discrimantion of the very poor in this country.  The very poor in our country have little identification; they don’t drive, they don’t have credit cards, they don’t have insurance, they don’t belong to any clubs.  All of the afore mentioned provides a card that in many ways identifies you. These people have little on their person that could identify them in the same manner you could.  But they’re not stupid, they want to vote and they know who they want to vote for; they want to vote for Obama.  Senator Mitch McConnals and the rest of the Republicans of the world don’t want them to vote, not now, not ever…..

I don’t think the founding fathers had voter ID’s in mind when they drafted the constitution.  Studies have proven that in nationwide elections far less than a fraction of one percent is attributed to voter fraud. Voter ID is a ploy to exclude a segment of our society and deny them their rights as citizens of this nation.

I totally agree with Todd that voting is the greatest privilege this country offers, far more important than boarding a plane or renting a car…but these people don’t rent cars or board planes…and he knows that. What they do is vote and the election of 2008 proved that overwhelmingly.

When Bush was president and the war was raging, he gave Haliburton “no bid” contracts; forget the fact that its largest shareholder and former C.E.O. was his Vice President Dick Chenny. A lot of the money we owe to China went to pay Haliburton who really really stuck it to us.

If Holder and Obama are guilty of anything, it is trying to protect the rights of the poor. If Nixion would have had the necessary proof of what Todd alleges, he would not have walked away, meaning it was and still is only conjure.  Look what went on in Florida with Bush and Gore….remember hanging chads?  In the end the Supreme Court decided the election.  Nixion was no stranger to breaking the law.  And if deportation was delayed for 215,000 illegal aliens it was not so they could vote for him because they cannot vote. Its public record that voter fraud in this country amounted to less than 50,000 that they think were able to vote illegally which isn’t even close to 215,000, in fact it is minuscule to the overall total votes cast.  One more thing; I have friends who live in Chicago and they are very honest people; we can’t be painting all people with the same brush…….

The poor also need ID to get food stamps!

NO ID ….. NO VOTE

The poor, the poor. They are always used as a sacred cow by leftists.
They use IDs to buy beer and cigarettes. They can use them to vote.

I am not wealthy now and have been very poor.
I know what I am talking about.

We ned Ids for everything else, so why not for voting?

I don’t think it’s hard to get an ID regardless of where you live in the US. I can guarantee you if they required an ID for federal aid these people would have no problem coming up with one. Peter, Obama is hardly a friend to the poor, don’t fool yourself. Look at who the bailout money went to, it went to the rich. He cares about the poor alright-for getting their vote.

Like others here, I tired of hearing that commenter from the Glob rant about making welfare recipients take drug tests, and requiring voters to in essence, pay a poll tax (“only land owners should vote”).

Our constitution does not say that at all. It does not allow a poll tax. Such an idea limits freedom.

Yet, does an ID really restrict voting? I suggest as an example, my place of birth, the state of IL. When one registered, they sent you a card verifying that registration. It took all the resources of a pen, and a 10¢ stamp. (To which if the cost were too much, the state could provide a franked card for “Business Return”)

One does not, nor should not have to provide their first born male in order to vote in an election. Keep it simple.

Correct he is shipped off to Texas, even they can’t stand him. He doesn’t even get it or see it. Most people like him are like that.. in huge denial. Good one…look it up the Washington fiasco. He is not American. Betty the reason it turned into Todd is because he’s a FAR WORSE problem then ID’s and voting. Look him up. You will find it all out. He had an excuse for it though maybe he’ll come here and be his usual prickiness and explain with the ultimate lie. He comes with smiles sometimes so reader beware. He can’t fool us ever.

http://legacyfoundation.us/poll-shows-iowans-support-voter-verification/

(DES MOINES)- A poll of Iowans between February 6 and 7, conducted for the Legacy Foundation, reveals that by a more than a 3 to 1 margin Iowans favor a proposal that voters show photo identification before being allowed to vote.

Support for the three voter verification initiatives was strong across all demographic categories including party affiliation. Among Democrats 59.5% favored the photo identification proposal to 35.7% opposed. Republicans favored 85.8% to 10.8%. Among registered No-Party voters 83.9% to 13.4%.

I don’t even know this Todd guy or care but in true Saul Alinsky fashion these comments turned from a topic of voter ID, where IMO the postings for why getting ID for everyone is not difficult and would make the process more secure, to Alinsky’s Rule 12 in Rules for Radicals. Look up the rule. Alinsky believed to help win an argument that direct personalized criticism and ridicule against people works. This stuff is actually taught in workshops. As people become more educated about these tactics and sunlight is shone on them people will recognize what’s going on and not be so duped. The topic was voter ID not so much Todd Blodgett but when you lost the argument some of you changed gears. Interesting.

betty – why are you pasting such sanity?? STOP IT. Stop it right now!!! 🙂

I couldn’t care less about voter ID. The “criticism and ridicule” directed at Mr. Blodgett is just me making factual statements. I guess I am criticizing to sky by calling it blue, or ridiculing grass for calling it green. Not my fault he’s a white supremacist creep. He made that bed all by himself.

Ken K what’s with “other technology” that can identify a person as they go to the polls?????? Voting machines don’t help in the ID process. What? Are somehow our fingerprints or retinal scans being done and we don’t know about it? Where are the facts to back up such a statement?

NO ID, NO VOTE. Period.

The state used to issue ID cards the same way they issued Drivers Licenses. You have to have a DL to drive, as well as insurance. You have to have an ID to vote. Its a priviledge, and should be taken with respect. Enough respect to get an ID.

Without ID’s, there is nothing but problems with identifying voters.

It’s a priviledge. If you don’t want to get an ID, you shouldn’t get that priviledge. It shows you do not respect it.

No ID, No VOTE.

Voter ID is most certainly not needed in North Iowa. We have voting machines and other technology that can identify a person as they attend the polling station and cast their ballot.

True enough, thanks for the mindful comment.

I think Todd is at his dad’s house right now working on his next Globe piece. Tomorrow they will fill up his wallet and his gas tank.

Very true about Blodgett. He was caught at some things..look it up. He denies it in a distorted way, you’ll hear him here soon enough. Under many different names so be prepared. It is easy to spot him though no matter who he says. With this he may lye in wait or catch another topic for his defense. He will have plenty of reasons for the living at home thing too. Who does that? We know who does. People with zero true self esteem or who have been caught at something or are just plain obnoxious and no one wants them around. He is very irkable. The name is Todd that’s who.

Well said Tom. I don’t very often agree with Peter and I never agree with Todd, however Peter is so right on with this one. The ID you get from the state of Iowa has no experation date. The law that is being talked about requires that the ID have an experation date; such as a drivers license or a credit card. Why should the poor be forced to spend what little money they do have on getting some sort of ID. I know most right wingers don’t or can’t understand what being poor is all about.

Todd is a crackhead. His father used his political influence to take care of his many legal problems in D.C. and have them swept under the rug. He is a 50 year old with no legal rights, due to the fact he gave them up, on paper to his father. The only reason he has a problem with poor black people is because he can’t buy crack from them anymore. He is no more than a child. He doesn’t live with his parents, he lives off of them. They don’t even want him around. Most of the time they ship him off to Texas.

Todd Blodgett is a white supremacist (google it). On top of that, he’s 50 years old and still lives with his parents!!

Straw man. Thought ending cliche. The facts are well known to anyone with even one functioning neuron in their noggin – the association of TB with “white supremacists” was associated with his work with the FBI. Anyone that does not know it, or choses to ignore is willfully ignorant of facts, and a perpetuator of lies.

Ok Todd.

no id… no vote. period

You got that right. No ID, NO Vote.
Like no shirt, no entry. Simple. What’s to understand? I just can’t believe those that think we should not have an ID to vote. But if no ID meant no handouts, there would not be a problem then.

But this frame of mind doesn’t surprise me with Peter. These liberals just can’t get their heads screwed on straight. I give up.

Well Peter I knew the day would come that I would disagre with you BUT not about the topic but about your words on Todd. Todd is the epi center of nasty thinking and he is an A team lover (how he was raised he can’t help it) and not in agreement with all things you normally speak about. He is book smart maybe but lacks heart common sense and the fine ability to see another side. He hates the blue working man and his way of thinking. He will smile in your face and back hand you in a minute. Every one knows this about him. He is shady and a braggert beyond belief. Never take your eyes off him he will turn on you. Watch for his (he thinks) cunning blogs to the contrary.

Everyone that is a legal resident has a form of I.D. They can have or get a birth certificate. If 18, they should have no problem getting a drivers license or government I.D.

Peter has once again writtena ridiculus article full of inaccuracy. He is just trying to stir the pot with liberal propaganda.

Verifing identity to produce an accurate election- (1 legal citizen = 1 vote) …just makes sense.

Joe…….What do you expect from an obmama supporter? The truth?

Good one neknoh, right on !!!!

People may not have stock accounts but they certainly need a bank account opened to deposit their employment or government aid checks and the bank DOES REQUIRE an ID.

Thoughts: Maybe people who owe child support don’t want to have to show an ID because they will get tracked down by the govt for bailing out of their responsibilities to their children. Maybe there are some others who can’t give an address because they are living with someone in Section 8 housing and that Section 8 recipient is not supposed to have him there and they may get kicked out. Have you ever noticed people being arrested having no address listed?

PETER…You are so wrong on so many things,I hardly know where to start…except, to vote once again for this pretender now in office is like commiting suicide. Anyway here are some facts.

12 million registered Americans(?)are not at the address on their voter list.

3 million are registered in more than one state.

More than 2 million voters are deceased.

For your info, Halliburton was the only company capable to doing the “whole” job without having to seek subcontractors, which was not feasible at the time it was needed.

Preach it, brother. Peter is all messed up on this on.

Todd, is that you??

SIJR…..you are SO correct!! Not only is Peter wrong, he is ignorant. He is one person who talks out of the other side of his ass!

Peter, I have to say I appreciate your voice on this matter. I stopped reading the comments on the Globe bacause of Blodgett’s ideas that the poor should not be allowed to vote. It seems he has found a way to legitimize those ideas. To all of you who think it won’t affect the poor and the black, or think it’s ok if it does, I pity you. And should there ever be a circumstance in your life when you need a hand, I will be here to help you because I believe that ALL people are equal and deserve to be treatesd as such.

We are all poor in so many ways.

Some in money, some in compassion. Thank you for bringing voter ID consequences to the attention of the public. It disheartens me considerably to know that North Iowans are so ready to seperate themselves from their neighbors.

Class and race warfare is for, quite frankly, ignorant people and is a big bore.

Go to census.gov and you will see that this narrative put forth by this person is not true. Check out southern state registrations by race, age, etc. The facts are all there. Don’t listen to people that are uninformed. Do your own fact checking. There is no excuse not to check out your own facts with the internet at your fingertips. Southern voting registration appears to be successful and those same people who are skilled at getting people registered will help those people get their IDs to vote.

I agree there are inexpensive ways to acquire ID’s but in the South its like living in a third world country. And lets not kid ourselves; they just don’t want blacks voting, and that will just raise more awarness. I vote for this president and I am going to vote for him again.

Those poor people you fear are disenfranchised by voter ID laws… if they’re on any kind of public assistance had to prove identity to receive the assistance. They should have to do the same when it comes to voting. Egad Peter, you are a master of the thought ending cliche with your “they just don’t want blacks voting” garbage – and that’s exactly what it is. Garbage. To function in society today, you have to have some sort of ID. It’s not too much to ask to produce a valid ID to vote.

Voting for this imbecilic black tsar is like pulling your own switch while in the electric chair. At least my vote will nullify yours!

(we shot better presidents)

To quote Peter “The not so great” Children…..”They just don’t want blacks to vote.”

Talk about an ignorant, bigoted comment. And in another previous column Petey boy wrote he wanted to “see a man of color” in the White House in his lifetime.

At least now we know how “colored” you think! With Peter around the phrase Idiots Out Wandering Around (IOWA) surely and truly fits! I guess he is just a product of his generation……one of which I thank God I am not a part of!!!!

Oh know. Peter for the last 3 months has complained because of lack of voter turn out because the lower class did not vote for max. Now he says that the lower class has voted overwhelmingly. I guess when it comes to voting I would like to see the most honest system that we could put in place. Everyone needs some sort of ID today so why not use it to make a system more simple and possibly less corrupt.

I vote yes for voter IDs. Actually I would go even farther.

It would be better if we all had to take a “test” to prove we know what the hell the we are voting about.

As it stands now everybody goes and votes for the idiot that promises to GIVE them the most money.

One of the questions would be, “Where does the government get their money to give away?”

You get the point!

Did you miss the recent headline on msnbc.com that 1 in 8 voter registrations in US have errors? That
24 million registrations have significant errors including about 1.8 million dead people still on the rolls and many approved to vote in multiple states?

Dead people voting.. it’s The Chicago Way betty. 🙂

….”Vote early, Vote often”…… Supposedly the words of a Chicago Alderman at the turn of the century, probably “Hinky Dink” Kenna.

With the Patriot Act you need an ID to open an account at a bank or to open a stock account. So are we discriminating against the poor with our Patrio Act?

Betty, do you believe that the poor have stock accounts?

Even the poor need to show id. Makes no sense to not require it.

Some of the biggest people that receive money from the Government are the rich. They just call it something other than welfare. They call it tax credits, farm subsidies, grant money. Look at the Bush’s, father was president, son gets offered to buy in to a professional baseball team, Texas gives them money to build a new stadium, they sell the team and make a boat load of money. Tax payers giving the rich more money. I would always help the poor. That is the people Jesus hung out with, not the kings. Leave the poor alone and give them some credit, all it takes is a small medical problem and we could all be in their shoes.

A $1 lifetime ID card issued at a Driver’s License Station would not be too much of a burden on anyone.

and

If you think that would somehow violate the 24th Amendment – We could make it free! Just like everything else the poor uneducated gutter trash in this nation get.

WOW, I hope life is always good to you. Just because someone is poor does not make them uneducated or trash. Go down to Louisiana where the had the hurricane and make that statement. You know how many educated people lost everything including their jobs and had to start over again?

Those same “poor people” have to have some sort of ID to cash a check, or apply for their state aid. There’s nothing wrong with using that same ID to vote with. You argument is a red herring.
