Cyclone Women Fall To Texas Tech, 51-41

LUBBOCK, Texas – Chynna Brown scored 19 points to lead Texas Tech to a 51-41 win over Iowa State Sunday at United Spirit Arena. The Cyclones fall to 14-9 overall and 5-7 in Big 12 play. Texas Tech improves to 17-7 overall and 5-7 in conference action.

The Cyclones were led by Chelsea Poppens’ 12 points. Nikki Moody and Kelsey Harris were also in double-digits with 11 points each. Harris hit three 3-pointers in the game. Hallie Christofferson grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds in the loss.

As a team, Iowa State was hurt by a season-low 27.1 percent shooting from the field.

Iowa State took its only lead of the game at 28-27 with 16:19 remaining in the second half following five points out of the break from Moody. The Lady Raiders then answered with a 9-3 run to go on top for good. Iowa State cut the lead to three at 36-33 on a Poppens’ bucket in the paint but the Lady Raiders had an answer. Tech eventually built its lead to as many as 14 points.

Iowa State struggled offensively in the first half shooting just 26.1 percent from the field. The Lady Raiders led by as many as seven with 12:49 left in the half. The Cyclones were able to trim the Tech lead to one at 15-14 following a pair of free throws from Brynn Williamson, but Brown hit a three to spark a quick 5-0 run for the Lady Raiders. The Cyclones got the deficit down to four at 25-21 at the half. Poppens had eight for the Cyclones and Harris added six first-half points. Tech was led by Brown’s 11 points in the opening stanza.

Brown was the only player in double figures for Texas Tech.

Iowa State returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Kansas at Hilton Coliseum. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
