Hawkeye women beat Minnesota, 75-58

IOWA CITY – The Gophers women’s basketball team lost to Iowa 75-58 on Thursday night and now has its first three-game losing streak of the season.

The Gophers (12-14, 4-8 Big Ten) also have lost five of six with four games left in the regular season.

The Hawkeyes (15-10, 7-5), playing without injured leading scorer Jaime Printy, won their fourth in a row. Morgan Johnson had 23 points, eight rebounds and three blocks; Samantha Logic, a freshman guard from Racine, Wis., had 20 points, nine rebounds and six assists; and Kamille Wahlin netted 19.

The Gophers were led by Rachel Banham with 20 points. The freshman extended her double-digit scoring streak to 22 games and added six rebounds. Katie Loberg contributed 10 points and three rebounds, while Kiara Buford added eight points and five rebounds.

The Gophers made only two of 14 three-point attempts. The Hawkeyes made seven three-pointers on 25 tries, with Wahlin hitting five.

The Gophers trailed 11-10 before the Hawkeyes went on a 16-2 run. Minnesota trailed by 18 points with about two minutes left in the first half and could only close the deficit to 15 before the intermission.

Wahlin opened the second half with a three-pointer, and a short jump shot by Johnson opened a 20-point lead.

The Hawkeyes led by as many as 25 points.
