Op-ed: More character assassination from the Globe (by Peter Children)

More gibberish, more mumbo-jumbo rhetoric with underlining character assassination. How many times will the Globe continue to throw the three former councilmen under the bus? Why should I be surprised…or you for that matter.  The building at 300 Washington Avenue is what it is, just a structure. The building doesn’t write words, it’s those inside that put this crap onto paper (some might call it Charmin).

Lets start this autopsy at the point where 36 years of community service by three hardworking former council persons are thrown over the cliff.  They now take the position that dissent is healthy.  Before, it was bickering.  So when the three former council persons walked out instead of giving NIACC $150.000.00 they really weren’t watching out for your money, they were uncooperative. Is that it?  Now they’re set to blow over $76,000.00 just to move a desk.  Did you vote in the last election?

Improve relationship between HRC and the council and mayor. There has never been a problem between the HRC and the council or mayor in the 38 years the commission has existed….until this mayor appeared. I’d really like to find out just who signed to get Bookmeyer out; he had to be locked up somewhere.  Did you vote in the last election?

In privatizing the sanitation department they do not tell you that around 11 jobs will be eliminated…11 families will be thrown to the wolves in this economic climate, is that what we’re all about? Is this then the “lean” program we’re adopting….throwing out loyal employees on their ass?  Let me tell you what it really is. Bookmeyer wants to get rid of the union; that is as much of it as anything, so if you’re a union guy pay attention. Did you vote in the last election?

Developing a “sustainability plan” that links with the Comprehensive Plan. Now just what in the hell does that mean to the average reader? This rhetoric reminds me of when I sold aluminum siding; we’d write all kinds of things that were for the most part meaningless, we did that just to fill up the space and make it appear more important than it really was, kinda like what you see here.  Did you vote in the last election?

I don’t want to touch on all the smoke and mirrors contained in this siding contract, frankly I have too much to do and I have already given it too much of my time. There is an important lesson to be learned here; and it all comes down to one issue, one very important issue that infects our society for which there seems to be no cure.  People who suffer the brunt of an administration like the one we have currently running this city are the result of not voting.  This isn’t rocket science; if you want to drive your car you need to put in gasoline or it won’t go.  If you want good government staffed by reasonable people who will represent your best interests and hold listening posts like Don Nelson and Jeff Marsters used to find out what their constituents wanted, then you need to vote….or you can just buy into what the spin doctors are spoon feeding you.

Oh what a low standard we set for Peter, he didn’t call anyone a name therefore he did a good job. What a joke.

Excellent job Peter. Not once did you call anyone a name and explained your cause very well. I do totally agree with you about this mayor and some of the council. I am still waiting to see how a couple of them work out.

its being written right now.

What strange logic this guy has.

Ok Pete, your a savant, explain how it would be different if a small portion voted, and there was a winner and loser. Now more or all voted and there would be more votes for the same winner and the same loser. Seems a logical assumption???

Not at all true; if more people voted the real people’s choice would emerge….and it would not be Bookmeyer. The more effuent vote, the better educated vote; the rest do not. The more effuent and better educated always vote so in a small turnout they win, increase the numbers and they do not.

Look at the 2008 presidental election. Big money gave what they always did which was millions; but Obama captured the hearts of the common men & women who gave small amountds…10 & 20 dollars at a time. Because there were so many more of them the totals reached hundreds of millions and the rest is history. When people band together they can do anything.

Oh peter, do you really think Obama didn’t accept BIG money? I used to think you knew what you are talking about. I was obviously wrong. Check the money trail, actually compare the numbers to McCain. See what you find out.

A correction: The grant to the Papajohn Center that was being considered the night the three caballeros walked out was not for $150,000. It was for less than $10,000. The three caballeros realized that the vote would end in a tie and that the Mayor could vote to break the tie.

Sure was about $150 k, the just under $10 k was PJ start-up fee ONLY…

On the evening where the three walked out, the item on the agenda was to fund less the $10,000 in the start up costs. If it had been for the full $150,000 they would not have needed ton walk out because the Mayor would not have been allowed to break the tie. They had previously voted on the larger amount, and it died on a 3 to 3 tie. Peter’s facts were incorrect. Nothing more, nothing less and no judgement intended.

I for one appreciate the job Peter is doing. he tells it like it is !! the current administration is a f’kn joke. WELL DONE Peter !!

Don and Jeff’s problems started with the Globe when they threw their lot in with Max.I remember when they,Don and Jeff, were trying to raise enough money to get Max to quit the council. It probably was in jest but Max said if someone would pay him, I think it was 5000 ,he would quit. When the council changed Don and Jeff lost some allies and in order to stay relevant in their minds HAD to side with Max against their better judgement,in my opinion.
The Globe didn’t like Max or should I say how he acted and then it was just guilt by association.
Peter you got through a whole blog without name calling and got your point across, good work!

This is not about throwing rocks, its about trying to pull the wool over the eyes of an entire community….not on my watch.

How can you whine about character assassination when you yourself are guilty of the practice here? When you are without sin, then you can cast stones.

Sorry, gotta agree with “Gueest” here. Character assassination is all you do, Peter.

That’s the part that kills me !!!! Peter is better, smarter, and more “E F F U E N T” than
the rest of us.

I love a guy so critical, with such a colored past himself. Hello Pot, this is the kettle. I am black, and you are black, get over yourself. We are both the same, and you are not better than everyone else like you write.

I have little girls, and I think they would enjoy reading Peter’s Op Un-Ed. Peter thinks like they do.
