MASON CITY – A house with a dubious past has been OK’d for demolition.
The city council approved a plan to have a house located at 717 South Jersey Avenue meet the wrecking ball.
City Administrator Brent Trout described the home at 717 South Jersey (pictured) as “abandoned, an attractive nuisance, and unsafe.”
Authorities have been called to the address numerous times in the recent past, most recently in September for a house fire.
Trout said in another memo that there have been complaints from neighbors about the house, and he referenced the September fire.
The house will be inspected for asbestos and then bids to have it demolished will be taken. A city hall memo says the costs to demolish the property will be assessed to Allied P&C Insurance Company; there will be no impact on the city’s budget from this action.
