MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – NIACC track and field had a pair of school records broken, and had a pair of throwers and a relay team qualify for the NJCAA National Indoor meet at the Hilltop Invite at Cornell University.
Lance Maxwell (So., Racine, WI) placed second, broke a school record and qualified for Nationals in the weight throw with a 15.49 meter (50 foot, 10 inch) toss. Maxwell qualified for Nationals in the shot put last week at the Minnesota State Open.
The NIACC men’s distance medley relay team placed first and set a school record with a time of 10:42.69. The team was made up of RJ Harris (So., Des Moines, IA), OJ Ojullu (Fr., Worthington, MN), Marquez Hobson (So., Minneapolis, MN), and Cesar Guevara (Fr., Ackley, IA).
The women’s distance medley placed second, but qualified for Nationals by finishing in 13:13.68. That team consisted of Ashley Ubbelohde (So., Waterloo, IA), Anna Buenneke (So., Hazelton, IA), Darcy Nelson (So., Lake Mills, IA), and Abby Muhlenbruch (Fr., Latimer, IA).
Freshman thrower Emily Burchett (Mayview, MO) qualified for Nationals in the weight throw with a throw of 14.79 meters (48 feet, 6¼ inches). That mark placed her fourth.
In the 3000-meter run, Cody Manchester (So., Mason City, IA) and Trent Smith (Fr., Charles City, IA) finished second and third respectively. Manchester finished in 8:58.50, and Smith finished in 8:58.68. Both were about five seconds off the national qualifying time.
NIACC will be at the Augustana Open in Rock Island, Illinois next weekend.
