MASON CITY – Mason City police and fire personnel responded to a possible explosion and fire Thursday evening at around 5:50 p.m. at 910 13th Street SE.
It was said that a female in her 30’s had been injured in an explosion in the garage at that address.
At the scene, a female was led to an ambulance where she sat on the bumper. Paramedics were speaking with her and a gurney sat idly in the street. Simultaneously, Mason City police officers and fire department personnel hauled trash bags and a trash container out of the garage (see photo, right). Police could be seen with flashlights searching the garage, adjacent snow-covered yard area and eventually the inside of the residence.
Neighbors told NorthIowaToday.com that a young woman lived at the residence and that “a lot of people come and go from here, night and day.” They also said children used to be around but no longer. “She didn’t keep up her lawn, either” one man who lives across the street said, pointing to the long grass in the yard.
Mason City police were questioning the woman at 6:05 p.m. It was not known if she was arrested or injured in connection with the incident. Two ambulances were on the scene and at least two fire trucks and Mason City police squad cars.

i know the family that was involved in this personally. I do not know if she was a drug user, although i wouldn’t have guessed her to be one. But as for the kids to stop any rumors, they shared custody with the dad having them more than the mom does. Her kids were not taken away.
We live in Iowa, it is not shared custody if the dad has them more than the mom. She has some sort of problem if the dad has custody. And the police did announce the fire was started by what appears to be a meth lab. And for those of you who say high traffic at a house, during all hours is normal, be careful you will get busted also. It is not profiling, it is facts. Houses with that much traffic deal drugs. Family and friends stay for awhile, and don’t leave the car running, usually with someone in it.
“shared custody” is when one parent has them mostly, then the other on Wed & every other weekend. I watch my sister in laws kids & cousins kids while they work, so yeah in the winter they leave the car running, chat for a bit, get their kids & leave. Obviously it wasn’t a meth lab if the policed got involved, tons of those & the cops avoid them like the plague. Oh & I won’t be getting busted, cops have already been here because of my neighbors. I’m as clean as the driven snow, just odd hours because of shift work & weekends work at a resturant/bar. Busting my butt to support my family & having fun outside of work does not mean drugs are involved.
I agree with Monica. Just because you have a lot of people coming & going at your house DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE INVOLVED IN DRUGS. I have lots of friends & family over all the time. Thanks to my dear ignorant neighbors for taking down plate numbers & calling the cops. It’s a shame that having lots of close people can get the cops involved. Is there media every time there is a fire? Who cares if her lawn wasn’t kept up…..mine wasn’t either when my husband was away. Can’t afford it & too pregnant to do it. Screw all of you judgmental turds. Hope no one got hurt, then they won’t be able to shovel their snow this weekend! WTFE.
If you lived near this house you would know what they are talking about…I do and I have children I feel it is our responsibility to know who lives around you. This woman had people over at all hours of the day….did you ever stay up all night with friends and family and then stay up all day again…who has that kind of traffic? I know the difference between having friends and family over and having obvious drug users around.
Yes, odd hours are NORMAL for people that do shift work. Get togethers after work whether it be 6 am or 2 pm ARE NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. I work at a bar/resturant on the weekends, so if friends come over after work on the weekend my kids are with their dad, then so be it & it’s still none of your concern. Teach your kids right from wrong & there isn’t a problem.

Why does the male neighbor assume her children were taken away? Maybe she has shared custody. Why was it assumed she divorced? It was implied drug explosion. Why? Maybe the window were open because she smelled something smoldering and couldn’t figure our what it was or where it was coming from…Why is it relevant that the lawn wasn’t mowed or kept up..Maybe she couldn’t afford the equipment or to pay to have it done..Did a neighbor offer to help..(bet not)..Having allot of company isn’t indicative of anything other than maybe she’s well like or has need not know to the public..cause it’s none of our business..I don’t her …Assumptions and Stero-typing and Profiling Plaque our small minded community..This may be why Mason doesn’t grow..I know of 4 families trying to leave because Mason in general is unwelcoming…
