Wrestling: Iowa Central 41, NIACC 9

FORT DODGE, Iowa – No. 12 NIACC wrestling only had two wins against No. 1 Iowa Central on Thursday night in a 41-9 loss to the Tritons.

Jameel Bryant’s (So., St. Petersburg, FL) pin of Jacob Harris at 174 and Basil Minto’s (Fr., Cape Coral, FL) 2-1 decision over Christian Mays at 184 were NIACC’s only victors.  The Tritons pinned four Trojans and recorded major decisions over two more.

NIACC is 1-2 in duals this year.  Last weekend, the Trojans gave up three pins in a 35-9 loss to No. 3 Labette Community College (KS).

Iowa Central sent six nationally ranked wrestlers to the mat, and sat out three more ranked wrestlers during the dual.

Iowa Central’s Jacob Colon, who is ranked sixth in the NJCAA at 125, started the rout with a pin of Andres Torres (Fr., Windsor, CA) in 4:59.  NIACC forfeited the 133 bout, giving Cordale Risk an easy win for the Tritons.

In a featured bout at 141, second-ranked Terrel Wilbourn dropped fourth-ranked Wismit Moinius (So., Naples, FL) 9-4 to extend the Tritons lead to 15-0.

Iowa Central would cap off the onslaught with three straight pins.  Top-ranked Edwin Cooper pinned Gibson Metellus (So., Miami, FL) in 3:48 at 149, third-ranked Michael Perez pinned Brendon Young (Fr., St. Louis, MO) in a 1:23 at 157, and top-ranked Colin Hewitt pinned Justin Head (So., Jewell, IA) in 1:32 at 165.

Eighth-ranked Bryant finally got the Trojans on the board in the 174-pound match.  He pinned Harris in 5:30.  Minto, who is rated-eighth at 184, finished NIACC’s scoring with his decision over Mays to make 33-9.

The Tritons finished the night with a pair of major decisions.  At 197, third-rated Kolton Kersten won 12-4 over Michael Guerrero (Fr., Eloy, AZ), and Lonnie Brown dropped Mark Tiedemann (So., Charles City, IA) 13-4 in the heavyweight match.

NIACC will not be in action this weekend, but they will have their last dual of the season at Iowa Lakes next Thursday at 6 p.m.
