There is a select few that are calling the shots in this community. They do not represent the majority but in doing what they are doing is not in anyway illegal. You see, the people living here bestowed that authority upon them. I realize what I am continually saying has been said before…by me. Those of you who do not vote are in many ways guilty of community malfeasance, corporate injustice; this city is in effect a corporation, that along with misappropriation of common sense.
How simple it is to vote, this past election all you had to do was step into any location, identify yourself and cast your vote. Nothing could be easier; yet year after year you fail that duty. I call it a duty because of the countless young men and women who fell on foreign soil never to raise again for the sole purpose so that we as citizens of this great country could chose those we think should represent us as a people.
The twenty percent who do vote know you will not vote. How do they know you ask; well let me be the one who offers you that answer. They know because they know you…they know you won’t go out if the weather is the slightest inclement, if there is a football, basketball or baseball game on television. My closest friends tell me that their vote won’t amount to much…how terribly wrong they are.
I urge you to look around you, look at who you elected as mayor, you who did not vote put this train wreck into office, you allowed him to embarrass you in public with his frequent drunken behavior, his despicable language. The result is that you gave him authority to spend your tax dollars for cosmetic changes in City Hall ($60,000.00) simply to move his desk to another location, or to move Trout’s desk close to his own so he can watch everything this guy who let the mayor preform surgery on his gentiles does. Wake up…in an economy where employment is scarce people with jobs are easily comprised, meaning Trout…Tom Meyer was no different, if that guy wanted to keep his law license he had to quit crafting legal opinions to conform to the mayor’s wishes….to that end he fled town. If he’d (Meyer) would tell the truth, that is what you’d hear.
Nobody likes to beat a dead horse, but my God people get your ass out of the lazy-boy, shut off the game and get your head in the game. Its embarrassing to see people like Mr. 12-pack dictating policy in any town let alone the one we all live in….and the council, well there is no secret there.

I agree with the poster above, get someone new to post, your OP-ED content sucks as does Mr Childrens opinions and I have nothing to do with Mason City in general other than to drop a dollar there once in awhile. I swear you bozos are never happy there, always pissed about something.
You have that right. People in Mason City are always pissed about something. As I read Mr Childishrens article, I thought he was talking about Max Weaver when he mentioned the bad behavior and bad language. But since this is not Max, the guy is all of a sudden bad? I don’t get it.
Peter Children needs to go crawl back in his hole. The title of the article tells us all that Mr Children is just jealous cause it used to be all Greek people getting their way in Mason City. And now that there is a new guard, and it is not Short Tommy Jolas, or a Barlas, or a Hassy, or Mr Childy himself…it’s bad?
The problem in Mason City, is there are too many people like Peter Children. Wayy too many like him.

I moved out of MC after high school and have enjoyed NIT as an alternative source of information about my hometown. I appreciate your questioning of city government. However I think you have crossed the line from raising legitimate questions about the city we love to slander. While you may not like the Mayor and Council, you should respect the offices they represent. Referring to the Mayor as a “drunk” does nothing to move the community dialog, which I otherwise believe NIT does a great job of. Criticize policy all you want, but keep cheap comments out of it.
Our Mayor thinks he is untouchable. Often he refers to his great landslide election to boost his ego. Less than 20% voted and and John did not run much of a campaign. So mayor as you keep catering to a select group we will remember this at election time. I too voted for this looser and regret it every day.
Mr Children. Truth be told the was complaints about a ex-council man that I think made Mr Meyer leave town not the Mayor. Something to due with hostile work enviroments. Maybe Matt should report about that story.
Dan, NIT is comitted to the truth and bringing out the truth from all sides. I would love to do a story about why Tom Meyer left Mason City but I can’t get any information from City Hall. If you know where I can get any of this information please contact NIT 515-897-1144.

I thought this article was about the people who control this city through back rooms. Yes folks-it really does happen and has happened as far back as I can remember (which is a long time). Instead you took this opportunity to rant about our worthless mayor who we already know about and are getting tired of hearing about from you. Do not misunderstand. I am not a fan of our mayor although, I did vote for him last time and am now smarter because of it. BUt, enough is enough. You continue to harp on the same subject time after time until people just shut you out. Stand in the wings and wait for him to screw something up again. (you won’t have to wait long) and then nail him. But get off this crap of constantly bitching about the same old crap.
