Body found in freezer; 5 arrested

The News Herald, Panama City, Fla. –

Five people have been arrested in connection with the slaying of an elderly Panama City man, whose body was found in the freezer of his home Saturday.

Raymond Harvey Gsell, 80, was found dead in the freezer of his home at 3905 W. 27th Court, according to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities believe Gsell was strangled by his 48-year-old wife, Judy Lynn Gsell, and Dawn Ruthann Ross, 27, 3706 W. 22nd Street, Panama City, after an argument. Both have been charged with murder.

Arrested on charges of accessory after the fact of murder were Ashley Nicole Knowles, 24, and James Timothy Wilson, 51, both of 3706 W. 22nd Street, Panama City; and Dale Emmett Hill, 47, address unknown. Authorities said they are charged in connection with an attempt to help dispose of the body.

Investigators believe that at about 4 a.m. Friday, Judy Gsell argued with her husband, Raymond, about money to purchase illegal narcotics. When Raymond refused, Judy Gsell and Ross allegedly strangled him for the cash in his pocket.

“After his death, it is believed the two continued to party into the morning,” BCSO said in a written statement.

The Sheriff’s Office received information Saturday about a possible homicide and went to Gsell’s home and found the body in a freezer inside the home.

The body has been turned over to the Medical Examiner.
