In the Sunday paper on January 15, 2012, the Globe Gazette threw a lifeline to Eric Bookmeyer and his crew at City Hall thereby removing all doubt that they are all living in a commune together. My generation would just say they’re “shacked up.”
At the same time it throws the covers off the bed reveling the age old myth that newspapers are unbiased, that they just report the news as it appears, unvarnished and naked; sure, you betcha. Whatever you might think, whichever way you lean, this too shall pass.
Harley Davidson’s event was touted as a million dollar make over, a complete new concept with the promise of 23 new jobs. As far as I can see no new square footage has been added…looks more like a new paint job consisted of sprayed drivit……a million dollars worth?
Because of what I write, people are quick to judge, they think I don’t like Bookmeyer, that is far from the truth…I just don’t like what he does, or the way he does it. As far as he himself goes, he has some serious issues outwardly that need work…but in some sense we all do. Look, I realize a lot of people get drunk, many get drunk in public…but they are not the Mayor of Mason City.
I wish them all great success in their effort to attract business, I want what is best for this community I have spent my life in; I just happen to believe there are too many great pretenders who in the end will drive the bus into the ditch.

If you are going to judge NIT and the Globe Gazette, or the media in general, making a profit is not the issue.
Honesty and telling the truth is what the discussion needs to be about when making that judgement.
None of us can make a good decision if we do not have all the facts.
The news media has an obligation to “tell the truth”. Leaving out information that is pertinent while writing a story to report on is lying.
Withholding a story is also lying.
For the Globe Gazette to ignore this story on CES so the community can gain information is lying big time.
This not only applies to the Globe Gazett, b but KIMT, or our local Radio stations also.
Remember a lie is a lie whether you tell a whopper or purposely ignore information, good or bad, when writing your story.
To totally not report is also dishonest. No wonder the public has little regard for the media.

Likely why no media other that NIT bothered to cover the landfill meeting. They do not want any more public outcry, and they want the public uninformed. See, that would hinder their mutual agenda with bookmier, willet, anderson, et all. A stupid public plays into the hands of the A team.
Jerry is right, Skipper left out the part about the expert who clearly stated there would not be enough trash to make this comcept cash flow based upon their stated need of 250 tons a day. Do any of you think John just forgot to include that or do you think it was omitted on purpose?

Jerry, you have it wrong. The Globe’s job is not to inform, it is to generate profits. It’s not a dirty word, it’s business. They just happen to do so as a media providor; i.e. selling newspapers. No different than KIMT, the radio stations or Northiowatoday.com. Although some may claim less bias, none will continue to exist if the people doing the work don’t get paid and bills don’t get covered. They can spin the news any way they like just like this site, just like CNN, MSNBC or FOX. They all have their leanings.
Sorry guest, it is far from even. Let’s be factual, otherwise it is a disservice to others. The Globe-Gazette has been here for years and many more people access their newspaper and site than NIT. Those of us who think NIT is great are spreading the word as fast as we can about this great resource. However, I run into many people that don’t even know about NIT yet. So the majority of people are getting the skewed view of the CES project from the Globe Gazette. John Skipper’s article about the landfill meeting where he failed to mention that an outside expert in his presentation explained we will not generate enough trash and will need to bring more in and that there appear to be questions on how they will make profits flow. How can anyone not think that both sides should be equally presented in the community newspaper with such an important issue? Their job is to inform, not to persuade.
The Globe allegedly “props up” while this web site tears down – yin & yang – makes everything even.
