IWCC tops NIACC women, 84-53

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – One word can describe the NIACC women’s basketball team’s game against Iowa Western Community College on Monday night: cold.

NIACC shot only 28.6 percent (18-of-63) from the field in an 84-53 loss to the Reivers to drop to 10-6 this season.  Iowa Western shot 50 percent (34-of-68).

Kika Greenlee (Fr., St. Louis Park, MN) scored 24 points to lead NIACC performance, but shot 9-for-29 (31%) from the field.  Jennifer Nelsen (So., Mason City, IA) recorded 18 points, while no one else scored more than four.

Greenlee also led in rebounds with eight, and assists with four.

Iowa Western used their depth to hold a 30-4 advantage in bench points, as well as hold advantages in second chance points (22-4) and points off turnovers (19-10).  Shaw-nee Winningham and Lakota Goe were the top-scorers for the Reivers with 16 points each.

Iowa Western, an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) school like NIACC, plays at the NJCAA Division I level in basketball, while NIACC plays at Division II.  Because of the different levels, the game did not count in the conference standings for either team.  The rest of NIACC’s schedule is against Division II programs.

NIACC (2-0 in the ICCAC) will next play at home against conference rival #14 Kirkwood on Saturday at 1 p.m.
