Mason City police are asking for assistance from the public in locating a new born baby.
Lt. Ron Vande Weerd told NorthIowaToday.com that police were called to the IowaWorks office, located at 600 south Pierce Avenue, on Friday, January 7th to investigate an umbilical cord and placenta found in a restroom by cleaning staff. No baby was found and police proceeded to search and investigate the situation.
Vande Weerd says the mother was identified as Chanel Hanley, 19 years old, from Charles City and is not cooperative at this time.
The baby is pre-mature (about 29-32 weeks) and about 3 pounds.
