LAKE MILLS, Iowa – Lake Mills High School outside hitter Shelby Kuper will join NIACC volleyball next fall.
This past year, Kuper was a First Team All-North Iowa Conference selection, and played a big role in a 45-1 season and a state semifinal run for the Bulldogs. As a junior, she was a North Iowa Conference honorable mention in her junior season and part of a state final run.
“I’ve been playing volleyball since the fourth grade, and once you’ve stuck with a sport for almost ten years, it’s hard to just ‘be done,'” Kuper said. “I’m excited to move up a level, and thankful that I still get the opportunity to play.”
NIACC volleyball coach Chris Brandt, a former Lake Mills Bulldog, has followed Kuper’s development and will look for Kuper’s approach to the game and experiences to help take NIACC volleyball to the next level.
“We have been watching Shelby play the past couple of years and we are very excited that she has decided to be a Trojan next year,” Brandt said. “Not only does she bring a killer line shot, but coming from the Lake Mills program, she will bring a depth for the game along with a successful attitude.”
Lake Mills volleyball coach Jim Boehmer has produced a number of NIACC volleyball players over the years, also lauded Kuper’s outlook and work ethic.
“Shelby is an exceptional player who brings a great attitude to the team,” said Lake Mills coach Jim Boehmer. “She jumps well and is always improving. She has been a vital part to our run the last two years, and started on a team that has a combined 90-3 record the past two years and advanced to the state finals and semifinals. I think this experience will serve her well at the next level.”
