Beth Bednar stops in Mason City for an update

MASON CITY – Former news anchor Beth Bednar stopped in Mason City on Saturday morning for a quick chat and interview.

Bednar, (pictured) who worked for KAAL-TV in Austin, Minnesota for years, wrote a book titled “Dead Air: The Disappearance of Jodie Huisentruit.” Bednar was a news anchor in Austin in 1995 when Huisentruit went missing. Bednar routinely makes her way through Mason City to keep in touch with the locals and see what the latest news may be on the fate of Jodi.

“A new publication is always a possibility,” Beth said. “I always ask the public for help and leads that I can follow up on.”

Bednar said she can understand how it would be difficult for local law enforcement to follow up on the case. “They have their daily work to do; cold cases can be a challenge to work in addition to that. Following up on leads is not easy.”

Bednar, who lives in the Twin Cities area with her husband, Don, was coming from Kansas City Saturday and made a short stop at Jitters Coffee Bar in Mason City for the interview.  Later, she would be talking to other local persons interested in the case and share information. When she is not following leads on the Huisentruit case, she does speaking engagements.

“Dead Air” can be purchased at Book World in Southbridge Mall.
