Terrance Prochaska (pictured) and the Fair Board have been busy all week getting the All Seasons Building at the North Iowa Fairgrounds ready for this weekend and the “A Day of Thunder on the Syrup”.
Starting last Saturday night, after Boogie and the Yoyo’z got done playing, 2000 pound cement blocks that will be protecting the public were put into place. That job was finished the afternoon of New Year’s Day. The cement blocks were donated by Croell Redi-Mix and the Fairgrounds will be able to use them for other events also.
The inaugural Iowa Karts, Bikes, Quads and Outlaw Golf Cart Race will be racing at the North Iowa Fairgrounds on January 6 and 7. This will be the first indoor coke syrup racing event the Fairgrounds has ever seen. For those that don’t know, syrup will actually be put on the racing area.
Friday night, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., there will be a controlled practice and Saturday afternoon at 12:30 will be the races.
Admission is $10 for adults, $5.00 for students and kids 5 and under are free. Advanced tickets can be purchased at Mason City Honda for a discounted price. There will be limited seated because of the size of the arena and they will be keeping count at the door.
“This is an all day event. It starts at 11:00 in the morning and will go until probably 8 or 9 at night depending on the cart count. Get here early and stay because of the limited seating we might have to turn people away,” Prochaska said.
There are many trophies for different events throughout the day. There will be food vendors and drinks sold. Earplugs, will also be available. The track will have 86 foot straits, not including the 25 foot corners.
Tim Woodward says, “I’ll be using a four gas analyzer to detect hydrogen, carbon dioxide, explosive gas and oxygen in the air.” There are air vents in the ceiling and if needed the big doors will be opened.

Congrats to Terrance and all the workers who donated their time to bring something new to the NI Faigrounds. A packed house was enjoyed by all. The fairboard needs young blood to get things going like this to bring revenue to Mason City and surrounding areas. If you did’nt make this one come join everyone in Feb. for the next. It was so great to see all the young people and parents enjoying and family orientated event.
Great event congratulations to Prochaska and the Fair Board. Come on Mason City work with the Fair Board not against them.
Great job, I’m glad the board is taking the bull by the horns and getting some new thing on the grounds. I for one have heard possitive comments from the general public latley. That is what we need, I think those people have made great leps and bounds in the last year. Let the past few years be behind them. Lets all help in any way we can to make the fair be like the old days.I think these people work real well together.So come on Mason city and also the county supervisors lets get behind them.
