IRVING, Texas – Iowa State’s Chelsea Poppens has been named Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 16.5 points and 14.5 rebounds in just 27 minutes a game. It is her first career honor.
Poppens, the Big 12’s top rebounder, grabbed 16 boards to go along with her 14 points against New Hampshire. The junior forward followed with 19 points and 13 rebounds in the championship game against Buffalo. The Aplington, Iowa native also had a career-high three steals against the Bulls en route to earning MVP honors at the Cyclone Challenge.
Of her 29 rebounds last week, 15 came on the offensive end. She hit .478 (11-of-23) from the field and .786 (11-of-14) from the free throw line.
Iowa State opens Big 12 play Wednesday at Oklahoma.
