NIACC wrestling ranked 12th in most recent NJCAA poll

MASON CITY, Iowa – The NIACC wrestling team is ranked-12th in the country and four wrestlers are ranked individually in the latest NJCAA polls released on Monday.

The Trojans moved up three spots from 15th in the last poll, which was released on December 6.  They have climbed up six spots from their preseason ranking.

The Trojans will have a pair of duals against ranked teams in the upcoming weeks.  #1 Iowa Central will host NIACC on December 26 in Fort Dodge, while #18 Iowa Lakes will test the Trojans a week later in Estherville on February 2.

NIACC will also see Rochester Community Technical College and Iowa Western Community College in tournaments before the end of the season.  Both of those schools are receiving votes.

Individually, Kirk Sallis (So., Waterloo, IA) is ranked third in the 133-pound class for the third consecutive poll.  Sallis, who has won two tournaments so far this season, is currently set up to face top-ranked Brandon Wright of Iowa Central on January 26.

Luther Open winner Wismit Moinius (So., Naples, FL) is ranked fifth in the 141 poll, Jameel Bryant (So., St. Petersburg, FL) is ranked eighth at 174, and Basil Minto (Fr., Cape Coral, FL) is eighth at 184.  Bryant climbed two spots from the previous poll, while Minto moved up one spot.

NIACC will see action for the first time in a month on Saturday when they travel to Oskaloosa for the William Penn Open.
