LAKE MILLS, Iowa — A 75-year-old Lake Mills woman reportedly died Friday morning after her daughter unknowingly ran her over in a Jeep.
Authorities are still investigating.
Iowa State Patrol reports Darla Andrews, 49, of Lake Mills, allegedly backed out of her driveway at 306 N. Washington in an attempt to go look for her mother, Betty Ann Harris.
State trooper Mike Haugen said Andrews had been looking for her mother for about 20 minutes prior.
Andrews reportedly did not know Harris was in the pathway of her vehicle and unknowingly ran over her, Haugen said. The daughter then left to drive around town in her search for her mother.
Upon her return, she found Harris lying in the roadway. The mother was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident reportedly took place just after 7:30 a.m. Friday.
Lake Mills police and Lake Mills ambulance crews assisted at the scene.
really??!!! Blaming the daughter, no one can say for sure what the mother died from until the family receives the autopsy report. DAUGHTER KILLS MOTHER plastered all over papers and tv, I would hate to be that poor daughter EVERYONE is blaming!!
If she didnt notice the hit, how does she know she ran her over and it was not someone else while she was gone?

When all the information is available then a better understanding of the accident can be had.
chances are there will be NO follow up story, this poor daughter will forever have to live with, and be remembered by the words printed that day.
Oh okay, so she ran her over & didn’t see her when she was driving away?? Fishy story to say the least.
Not enough information here to pass judgement.
We do not know which part of the body was ran over, where the body was at (end of driveway, roadway entrance) what type of jeep this was or the mental state of the driver.
We also do not know if the woman had already passed away before the accident even occured.
I’ll wait until I have more facts before saying one way or the other. I will say, if you were going to kill your mother, pretty sure running her over in the driveway is a very public place to do so.
There is a good chance that the lady was already dead before she backed out of the driveway. Maybe the autopsy will provide more information.

Maybe because a Jeep is such a rough rider, that could be the reason she wasn’t alerted to anything. I certainly don’t understand it myself. Unless she was frantically looking for a Alzheimer victim, she didn’t use caution when backing. ??????
