Iowa State defeated in Pinstripe Bowl, 27-13

An early 6-0 lead couldn’t stick for Iowa State against Rutgers Friday night in Yankee Stadium in front of 38,323 fans.

Rutgers scored 20 unanswered points and capitalized on several Cyclone turnovers to beat Iowa State 27-13.  Rutgers controlled the game on the ground, rushing for 183 yards.

Iowa State looked strong on their first two drives, led by quarterback Jared Barnett, which ended in field goals.

But Rutgers quickly drove down the field on their first possession of the second quarter for a touchdown and never looked back, leading 17-6 at the half.

Iowa State quarterback Jared Barnett was then yanked in favor Steele Jantz due to ineffective play and a lost fumble.  He missed several wide open receivers, at times bouncing passes in the grass in front of them.

Jantz got the Cyclones back in the game with a fourth quarter touchdown making the score 20-13.

But a 86-yard Chas Dodd touchdown pass to Brandon Coleman put Rutgers up for good 27-13, and all hopes were dashed after a Jantz interception.

Iowa State finished the season at 6-7.  Rutgers finished 9-4.
