BRIEF: Meth-making materials found in northwest Cedar Rapids home

Jeff Raasch, The Gazette, Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Police discovered materials used to make methamphetamine inside a Cedar Rapids home Thursday evening.

Officers responded around 6:50 p.m. to 1019 Sioux Dr. NW for a report of a man and woman arguing in the driveway. No one was outside when they arrived, so an officer knocked on the door.

The man who answered the door told police he had been asleep, but that he had two roommates that lived upstairs. There, officers detected a strong chemical smell, and found batteries, bottles and other items used to make meth, according to a police report.

James M. Martin, Jr., 39, and Tery D. Black, 37, were located upstairs, and both were arrested on suspicion of manufacturing meth. In addition, Black was cited for possession of controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. Police said Martin had two warrants revoking his probation for possessing drugs.

The roommate who answered the door was not charged, police said. Martin and Black were transported to the Linn County Jail.
