Twins agree to terms with Jason Marquis on one-year contract

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Jason Marquis on a one-year, $3 million contract.

Marquis, 33, was 8-5, 3.95 ERA (120.2 ip, 53 er) with 39 walks and 71 strikeouts in 20 starts with Washington last season.  He was traded to Arizona on July 30 and made three starts for the Diamondbacks, going 0-1, 9.53 ERA (11.1 ip, 12 er) with four walks and five strikeouts.  His season ended on August 16, when he suffered a fractured right fibula after being struck by a line drive.

A 2009 National League All-Star, Marquis was originally selected by the Atlanta Braves as a sandwich pick in the 1996 First-Year Player Draft.  He has played for Atlanta (2000-03), St. Louis (2004-06), Chicago Cubs (2007-08), Colorado (2009), Washington (2010-11) and Arizona (2011).

Marquis has a career record of 104-98, 4.55 ERA (1675.2 ip, 847 er) with 645 walks and 974 strikeouts in 326 games (267 starts).
