MASON CITY – On Monday, December 19th, 2011, Mason City police department investigators arrested Mallory Ann Hakes, 25, of Mason City on charges of child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor.
The arrest is a result of a joint investigation with the Department of Human Services from a report of suspected child abuse.
Investigators determined that Hakes’ 22-month-old baby boy had crawled into the clothes dryer located in the basement of their residence to hide. When Hakes found the boy in the dryer, she shut the door and turned the dryer on for a period no longer than a few seconds as a form of punishment for the child.
The child was uninjured in the incident.
Child endangerment without injury is an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by up to 2 years in prison and a $6,250 fine.
SUBJECT IS INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY.
