Op-ed: CES president on wrong path to gain respect (by Leonard Foster)

(by Leonard Foster)

The president of CES cannot come into this town and run down our citizens, then expect to gain respect from those who live here. I doubt very much if he did any research on Max Weaver before he got here; that information was probably supplied by Bookmeyer and / or Skipper.

I never heard of a guy who wanted to do business with a city come in and bad mouth out citizens, public officials or not. If he has an opportunity to build this plant in another town then he should grab it because the way it looks now it is not going to happen here without some more answers to a lot of questions.

He knows his chances are better after the new council is sworn in, but they still need to be approved by other agencies first and there is no assurance that they will get that done without hard evidence. It isn’t just Weaver who opposes this operation, if you pay attention there are many young women who are very worried about their children; Newman High School is close to this location and I am sure the school officials have their own concern as well.

Weaver has served this city well as a watch dog for the public, protecting it from unnecessary expenditures and proposals such as CES; I know now that he is off the council he will be even more watchful.
