Mason City beats Dowling in bowling

The Mason City bowling team, only in its second year as a sanctioned sport in Iowa, picked up four victories Thursday afternoon of Dowling Catholic. The boys and girls varsity teams won, as well as the girls and boys JV teams.

Coach Steve Chuck who has been helping the team for 8 years and coaching it for the last 2, said, “This will be a real good test for us. We hope to get down to state.”

Devin Broerman, the owner of Mystic Lanes in Mason City, where the matches were held, said “Mason City has a real good team. Some of the bowlers are really, really good, and have a great shot at state this year. They deserve more media coverage.”

Cody Brandau was the top scores, rolling a 234 and a 258 for a series total of 492. Evan Stalker also did well, rolling series total of 459. Sam Kirk was the top scorer for Dowling, rolling a 413.
