MASON CITY – A building located at 318 3rd Street SW is being demolished at this time.
The owners of the building, Lee and Mary Ellen Snell, as well as Joan Snell, have been in negotiations with City officials for some time on the issue. According to a City Hall memo, the Snells had been seeking City assistance to help with the cost of tearing down the building.
Now, a contractor has been hired to tear the building down, according to another city hall memo.
According to Growth and Development Director Pam Myhre, “they are demolishing…but selectively taking it apart to salvage trusses, etc.”
City staff is monitoring the progress of the demolition.
It had been stated months ago at city council meetings that the building was unsafe and should be torn down.
