Some people worked very hard to renovate one of Mason City’s treasures, the East Park band shell.
Apparently, some people could care less.
Over the weekend, vandals fired red paint balls at the white interior of the nearly-renovated band shell.
“There are 4 paint ball hits from this weekend on the brand new coating, they washed and then painted over them but it bleed through,” said Growth and Development Director Pam Myhre in an email to other city staff.
The white interior of the band shell was newly repaired and re-stuccoed.
A quick check of the interior on Wednesday showed that the paint ball marks were still there but very faint and obviously had been painted over at least once or twice.
“I don’t know what we can do except publicity campaign and security cameras” to prevent the vandalism from re-occurring, Myhre went on to say.
If anyone has information on the persons responsible for the this vandalism, or any other vandalism in Mason City, please call the Mason City Police Department at 641-421-3636.|
